Ingredients

  • 2 lbs fresh strawberries
  • 1 pint fresh blueberries
  • 3-4 ripe bananas
  • 1 cup vanilla Greek yogurt (optional, for dip)
  • 2 tbsp honey or maple syrup (optional, for dip)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (optional, for dip)
  • Large rectangular platter or baking sheet

Instructions

  1. Wash all strawberries and blueberries thoroughly. Gently pat them dry.
  2. Hull the strawberries and slice them lengthwise into halves or quarters, aiming for uniform pieces that can lay flat to form stripes.
  3. If making the optional yogurt dip, combine the vanilla Greek yogurt, honey (or maple syrup), and vanilla extract in a small bowl. Stir until well combined and smooth, then cover and refrigerate until serving.
  4. Peel the bananas just before assembly to prevent browning. Slice them into uniform rounds.
  5. On your large rectangular platter, arrange a square in the top-left corner using the fresh blueberries. This will represent the blue field for the stars.
  6. Starting from the left edge, next to and below the blueberry square, create your first red stripe using the sliced strawberries.
  7. Next, create a white stripe using the sliced bananas. Continue alternating red (strawberries) and white (bananas) stripes across the platter, extending from the blueberry square down to the bottom of the platter. Aim for 7 red stripes and 6 white stripes for a classic flag look, adjusting based on your platter size.
  8. Fill in any gaps to make the stripes look full and vibrant, ensuring a clear distinction between the colors.
  9. If using the yogurt dip, place it in a small serving bowl and position it on the platter or alongside it for guests to enjoy with their fruit.
  10. Serve immediately for the freshest taste and best appearance, or keep lightly covered in the refrigerator for up to an hour before serving.
