Perfect for parties, weeknight dinners, or game day, they deliver big flavor with minimal effort and quick preparation.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet (about 10 oz) frozen puff pastry, thawed OR 1 (8 oz) can refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 1 lb deli-sliced roast beef, thinly sliced
  • 6 slices provolone cheese (or Swiss cheese)
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp garlic powder (or 1 clove fresh garlic, minced)
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp dried parsley flakes (optional, for garnish)
  • 1 (10.5 oz) can condensed beef consommé OR 1 packet au jus mix prepared according to package directions, for dipping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a large baking sheet or line with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll the puff pastry sheet or crescent roll dough onto the prepared baking sheet, forming a rectangular shape. If using crescent rolls, press seams together to form a solid rectangle.
  3. Evenly arrange the provolone cheese slices over one half of the dough/pastry rectangle, leaving a small border.
  4. Layer the thinly sliced roast beef over the cheese.
  5. Carefully fold the other half of the dough/pastry over the beef and cheese, pressing down firmly around the edges to seal.
  6. In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, garlic powder (or minced fresh garlic), and onion powder. Brush this mixture generously over the top of the sealed pastry. Sprinkle with dried parsley flakes, if using.
  7. Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
  8. While the squares are baking, prepare the au jus for dipping by heating the condensed beef consommé or preparing the au jus mix according to package directions.
  9. Remove the baked pastry from the oven and let cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing into individual squares or desired serving pieces.
  10. Serve warm with the hot au jus on the side for dipping.
