Ingredients
- 1 store-bought angel food cake (10-12 oz), cut into 1-inch cubes
- 2 lbs fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
- 1 pint fresh blueberries, rinsed
- 3 cups heavy cream, very cold
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar (confectioners’ sugar)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the cold heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Beat with an electric mixer on medium-high speed until stiff peaks form. Be careful not to overbeat.
- Arrange about one-third of the cubed angel food cake in a single layer at the bottom of a large trifle dish (about 3-quart capacity).
- Top the cake layer with half of the sliced strawberries, spreading them evenly.
- Spoon about one-third of the whipped cream over the strawberries, gently spreading it to cover.
- Repeat the layers: Add another third of the angel food cake cubes, followed by all of the fresh blueberries.
- Add another third of the whipped cream, spreading it evenly.
- Finish with the remaining angel food cake cubes, then top with the remaining sliced strawberries.
- Dollop or pipe the remaining whipped cream on top. Garnish with a few extra berries if desired.
- Cover the trifle dish and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld and the cake to soften.
- Serve chilled and enjoy your festive dessert!
