Ingredients

  • 1 store-bought angel food cake (10-12 oz), cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 lbs fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1 pint fresh blueberries, rinsed
  • 3 cups heavy cream, very cold
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (confectioners’ sugar)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cold heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Beat with an electric mixer on medium-high speed until stiff peaks form. Be careful not to overbeat.
  2. Arrange about one-third of the cubed angel food cake in a single layer at the bottom of a large trifle dish (about 3-quart capacity).
  3. Top the cake layer with half of the sliced strawberries, spreading them evenly.
  4. Spoon about one-third of the whipped cream over the strawberries, gently spreading it to cover.
  5. Repeat the layers: Add another third of the angel food cake cubes, followed by all of the fresh blueberries.
  6. Add another third of the whipped cream, spreading it evenly.
  7. Finish with the remaining angel food cake cubes, then top with the remaining sliced strawberries.
  8. Dollop or pipe the remaining whipped cream on top. Garnish with a few extra berries if desired.
  9. Cover the trifle dish and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld and the cake to soften.
  10. Serve chilled and enjoy your festive dessert!
