Ingredients
- 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup (45g) unsweetened cocoa powder (optional, for richer chocolate flavor)
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, melted and cooled, or 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3-4 very ripe large bananas, mashed (about 1 1/2 cups)
- 1 cup (170g) chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan, or line with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder (if using), baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
- In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the melted butter (or oil), granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Stir the mashed bananas into the wet ingredient mixture.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix with a spoon or spatula until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; a few lumps are okay.
- Gently fold in the chocolate chips. Reserve a few for sprinkling on top if desired.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan. Sprinkle the remaining chocolate chips on top.
- Bake for 50-65 minutes, or until a wooden skewer or toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the banana bread cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Slice and enjoy your moist and delicious Chocolate Banana Bread!
